Worship at First Christian
The Worship Committee is led by Judy Evans, you can reach her at (224-6988). This group spends their time looking at the worship needs of the church. They plan special services such as Maundy Thursday Communion, Christmas Eve services and the 24-hour prayer vigil. At 9:00 a.m. each Sunday, the traditional worship takes place in the sanctuary. At 11:00 a.m. a worship praise service is held in Fellowship Hall, which is relaxed and less formal. Please read on to learn more about these two very special worship services.
Traditional Worship 9:00 each Sunday
Each Lord's Day, at 9:00 we gather for a traditional worship service in the church's sanctuary. The service begins with announcements and quickly moves into the Prelude. Prayer time is important as we lift up the needs of the church family, and beyond. Children are included in the service and Pastor Mike leads a children's sermon each week. Scripture is read and communion is served each week. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) celebrate communion each time they gather and all are welcomed at the Table. It is not our Table, but the Lord's. Special music is provided by our choir, under the direction of Lisa McMillen. During the summer, church members or others provide the special music. Typically this service lasts until about 10:00, at which time fellowship is held, often with fresh baked cookies. Following this time of greeting one another, Sunday School classes are held for all ages. A church nursery is provided for all Sunday activities. Pagers are provided should there be a need for a parent.
Praise Worship 11:00 each Sunday
The church understands that a variety of worship is needed, and so a praise service is held each week, beginning at 11:00 and lasting until about Noon. This service meets in the Fellowship Hall and begins with several songs being sung, led by our praise team. A time of scripture and mediitation is followed by a message by Pastor Mike. His delivery of this sermon is very informal yet gets to the point quickly! Communion is also served and a nursery is provided. This service continues to be in transition and the format will change from time to time. Come casually dressed and all ages are welcomed.
